There's a new concept on the Brazilian fashion horizon this season. Sustainability is the word and it could be seen everywhere at Sao Paulo Fashion Week. From an exposition of e-fabrics to the sustainability in the short films before each show, there's finally a deep concern about what can be done in order to save this tired planet from the looming chaos. And speaking of the future, metallic nuances colored a great portion of the collections as did intelligent fabrics, luxurious textures, layered looks, and the need for protection.
Following in the mood of sober colors witnessed at Fashion Rio, SPFW went for equally subdued neutrals. Color palettes ranged from black to silver, white, beige, and off-white, faintly illuminated by shades of green. Add restrained elegance marked by the return to an emphasis on skimming the waist, then travel to a place with a little spark of romance, brought on by the whiff of '20s and '40s that showed up in several collections.
