Last Friday night at the W South Beach lightning flashed, thunder rumbled and rain poured down but the Shay Todd 2010 collection fashion show presented by Nivea went on. The 80’s inspired collection featured shocking pink, slick black, ruffles and even shoulder pads.
Much like the decade the collection evolved from punk to prep, sleek to ethereal, other worldly to earthy with pieces like the patent leather “Bondage” monokini, featuring.
A barely there lattice side detail, the ruffled “Romance Romper” in soothing powder blue and the “Chastity”, as in belt, bikini in a beautiful shade of terra cotta the designer calls Henna accented by gold chain link hardware.
Shay Todd also transcends swimwear with looks like the “Goddess Maxi Dress” and the “Jones Dress” for the woman who wants to go from pool to party without making the trek to her room.
The collection is a fun flashback with a totally modern sophistication missing from the days when Aqua Net was an imminent threat to the ozone layer.
The company’s namesake and her husband-partner produce the line solely in Los Angeles. No wonder some of Hollywood’s heavenly bodies like Heidi Klum and Eva Longoria Parker are fans. Shay Todd can be found in Scoop, Intermix and Saks Fifth Avenue, Diane’s, Curve, Atrium, Harrods and Shay Todd boutiques.
