Glamorous Perth swimwear brand Kooey will be showcased to the world, when the label holds its first ever stand-alone show at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week in May.
If the label's latest shoot up the coast at Ningaloo is anything to go by, we are set for a sassy, sexy and fun parade with an Indigenous flavour.
The face of the label, Perth model Emily Cattermole, will star in the show which will attract buyers, fashion media, celebrities and more.Miss Universe Australia 2009 Rachael Finch will also make an appearance.
Named for the quintessentially Australian long-distance cry, the rise of Kooey has been a spectacular one, with high highs and low lows.
It was launched with a lot of fanfare during the Perth Fashion Festival with a show reminiscent of a Victoria’s Secret parade, in front of a stylish crowd of 800 people in 2008.
The Indigenous prints, beautiful models and spectacle had fashion followers across the country impressed.
But Joanne Pellew, the designer who launched the brand, was soon after found guilty of conspiring to sell or supply cannabis and sent to prison.
It was an extraordinary fall from grace for Pellew, who just a month before had claimed everything she touched turned to gold.
Current Kooey director Nikki Silverthorne said the label’s new collection was inspired by the colours and shapes of the Ningaloo reef.
“The last collection was inspired by the red sands of the Kimberley region,” she said.
“This season we have focused on the coastline which is such an integral part of Australian culture.”
The collection includes separates, one-pieces and resort wear.
Rosemount Australian Fashion Week starts on May 3. Kooey will showcase the collection on May 6.
